How to Upload a Receipt From Your Photo Library
Step-by-step instructions for using the upload option in the AskBiz receipt scanner to select a receipt image from your phone's photo library or files app.
Key Takeaways
- Tap the floating camera button and choose Upload from Library instead of Take Photo.
- You can select any image file from your phone's photo library or files app.
- The same AI extraction and review flow applies whether you take a photo or upload one.
When to Use the Upload Option
The upload option is useful in several scenarios. You may have already photographed a receipt earlier in the day and want to process it now. You might have received a digital receipt as an image attachment in your email and saved it to your phone. Or you could be working at a desk and prefer to drag a receipt image file from your laptop. The upload path handles all of these. It accepts JPEG, PNG, and PDF files up to 10 MB.
Opening the Upload Panel
Tap the floating indigo camera button at the bottom right of the screen. A small action sheet appears with two options: Take Photo and Upload from Library. Tap Upload from Library. On iOS this opens the standard photo picker showing your recent photos. On Android it opens your device gallery. If you want to select a file from a cloud storage app such as Google Drive or Dropbox rather than your local gallery, tap the Files option that appears in the top right of the picker (iOS) or use the Files app shortcut (Android).

Start for free →Selecting Your Receipt Image
Browse to the image you want to use and tap it to select it. The picker closes automatically and AskBiz displays a brief loading spinner while it sends the image to Claude AI for extraction. If you selected a PDF, the first page is extracted automatically. After processing, the review screen appears with all detected fields pre-filled, exactly as if you had taken the photo directly through the app.
Reviewing and Confirming the Extracted Data
On the review screen, check each field: vendor, date, amount, category, and notes. The AI confidence score beside each field tells you how certain the model was about that value. If a field shows an amber or red confidence indicator, tap it and type the correct value manually. Once every field is correct, tap Confirm at the bottom of the screen. The expense is saved to your account and appears in the expenses list immediately.
