For franchisors: unit economics and control. For franchisees: is this a good investment?
Franchising lets you scale without capital, but it requires different metrics. You'll learn same-store sales growth (are franchisees improving over time?), payback period (how long to recover franchisee investment?), and royalty structures (percentage of revenue or fixed fee?). You'll understand the benchmarks that protect both franchisor and franchisee, and how unit economics change when someone else owns the location. As a franchisee, you'll learn to reverse-engineer profitability from the franchisor's claims.
