Why Filtering by Branch AND Sector Changes Everything for Multi-Location Businesses
Multi-location and multi-sector businesses need granular filtering to make sense of their data. AskBiz branch and sector filter dropdowns apply across every tab — Overview, Operations, Staff, Branches, Map, and Audit — giving business owners precise, cross-dimensional intelligence without a spreadsheet.

The problem with blended data#
A business with three branches and two operational sectors — say, retail and repair — has twelve distinct data segments: each branch for each sector. When all of that data is blended into a single revenue figure, the intelligence disappears. You know the total. You do not know whether Branch 2 repair is dragging down a strong Branch 1 retail performance, or whether a specific sector is underperforming across all branches. Without the ability to slice the data, the only option is a spreadsheet — which takes time nobody has at 8am before opening.
How the filters work in practice#
The Branch and Sector dropdowns sit above the date range selector on the AskBiz admin dashboard. Set them once and every tab updates — you do not re-select on each screen. Select Branch 2 and Repair: every figure on every tab (revenue, transactions, staff performance, audit entries, map pins) now reflects only Branch 2 repair activity. Switch to All Branches and Retail: see retail performance across all locations. The combination of any branch with any sector is two dropdown changes.
What each tab shows when filtered#
Overview: revenue, average order, transaction count, refund rate — all for the selected branch/sector combination. Operations: individual transactions matching the filter, with full drill-down. Staff: only staff assigned to the selected sector, with their performance metrics for the selected branch (if location-assigned). Branches: sector-specific revenue and staff count per branch. Map: GPS pins for transactions matching the filter — useful for multi-location or mobile operations. Audit: transaction audit trail filtered to the selected combination.

The staff filtering nuance#
Staff filtering works through sector assignment. Each staff member is assigned to a sector (Restaurant, Retail, Repair, or Salon). When you filter to Retail, the Staff tab shows only retail-assigned staff. When you filter to All Sectors, all staff appear. This means the filter also serves as a team management tool — you can see your restaurant team's performance separately from your retail team without switching between different views.
Branch comparison without a spreadsheet#
The Branches tab gives the clearest cross-branch comparison — sector revenue and staff count per branch for the selected sector and date range. Combined with the sector filter, you can answer 'which branch is generating the most repair revenue per staff member this month?' in two clicks. This type of question previously required exporting data, building a pivot table, and spending 30 minutes on analysis. It now takes 10 seconds.
People also ask
Can I filter my POS dashboard by location and business type at the same time?
Yes. AskBiz has Branch and Sector dropdowns that work simultaneously. Select a specific branch and a specific sector and all dashboard tabs update to show only that combination of data.
Does the sector filter affect the staff tab?
Yes. When a sector is selected, the Staff tab shows only staff assigned to that sector. Their performance metrics are calculated for the selected branch and date range.
Do the filters reset when I change tabs?
No. Filter selections persist as you move between tabs within a session. They reset to All Branches / All Sectors when you refresh the page.
