Creating Promotions, Discounts and Coupons on AskBiz POS
How to set up and run promotions in AskBiz POS — from simple percentage discounts to product-specific deals and coupon codes.
Key Takeaways
- Create promotions from Operations > Retail > Promotions — set percentage or fixed-amount discounts, apply them to all products or specific items.
- Coupon codes let customers redeem promotions at checkout by entering a code — ideal for marketing campaigns.
- Promotions can be time-limited, quantity-limited, or customer-segment-specific.
Getting to Promotions
Go to POS > Operations > Retail > Promotions. Click '+ New promotion'. You'll see options for the promotion type: percentage discount (e.g. 20% off), fixed amount discount (e.g. KSh 100 off), buy-one-get-one (BOGO), or a spend threshold offer (e.g. spend KSh 1,000 and get 10% off). Choose the type that fits your goal — most clearance sales use percentage discounts, while 'free gift with purchase' campaigns use BOGO.
Setting the scope: all products or specific items
After choosing the promotion type, set the scope. 'All products' applies the discount to everything in the till. 'Specific categories' lets you run, for example, a 25% off all beauty products promotion. 'Specific products' lets you discount individual items — useful for clearing slow-moving stock. If you choose specific products, search and add them from your inventory. The promotion will only activate when one of those items is added to a basket.

Start for free →Adding a coupon code
Toggle on 'Require coupon code' to make the promotion opt-in. Enter a code — something memorable like WELCOME20 or LAUNCH50. Cashiers can type this code into the till, or you can set it so customers enter it themselves at a self-checkout point. Coupon codes are ideal for marketing campaigns where you want to track uptake: the Promotions dashboard shows how many times each coupon has been redeemed.
Setting limits and dates
Every promotion can have a start date, end date, and a maximum number of uses. For time-limited flash sales, set the end date to midnight of the last day. For limited-quantity offers (e.g. first 50 customers get a discount), set the maximum uses to 50 — AskBiz will stop accepting the promotion automatically once it's been used 50 times. Combine limits with customer segments to restrict the promotion to, for example, loyalty members only.
