Connecting TikTok to AskBiz
AskBiz connects to TikTok via the TikTok Business API. Requirements:
1. A TikTok Business Account (free to create — go to TikTok's Business Centre)
2. For TikTok Ads: a separate TikTok Ads account connection
To connect: Settings → Integrations → TikTok → Connect. You'll be redirected to TikTok to authorise. TikTok's API returns 60 days of historical video data on first sync.
For TikTok Ads: Settings → Integrations → TikTok Ads → Connect (separate authorisation).
TikTok-specific metrics to understand
TikTok analytics differ from Instagram in important ways:
Views vs reach: TikTok counts a 'view' when a video plays for any length of time — including auto-play loops. One person watching a video 10 times = 10 views. Reach is the unique account count.
Average watch time and completion rate: the most important metrics on TikTok. The algorithm rewards videos that people watch all the way through. Completion rate > 60% is strong.
Shares: the primary distribution mechanism. Videos with high share rates get algorithmic boost far beyond follower base.
Profile clicks and website visits: business impact metrics — how many viewers clicked through to your profile or bio link.
Understanding TikTok's algorithm
TikTok distributes content primarily via the For You Page (FYP) — non-followers can discover your content. This makes TikTok unique: a single video can reach millions regardless of your follower count.
Algorithmic signals TikTok uses (in approximate order of importance):
1. Video completion rate
2. Shares
3. Comments
4. Likes
5. Follower engagement rate
The first 0–200 views are shown to a test audience. If they engage, TikTok expands distribution. If not, the video reaches no further. This means even accounts with 0 followers can achieve viral reach.

TikTok Pixel is required for conversion tracking. Install it via TikTok Ads Manager → Assets → Events → Web Events → Setup Pixel, then add the pixel code to your Shopify store (TikTok has a native Shopify app for this).
TikTok vs Instagram performance comparison
AskBiz lets you compare TikTok and Instagram performance in Social → Overview → Channel Comparison. Key differences you'll typically see:
- Reach: TikTok usually generates higher reach per post due to FYP algorithm
- Engagement rate: Instagram carousels often have higher engagement rate by reach
- Revenue attribution: Instagram typically drives more direct revenue (stronger UTM tracking, Instagram Shopping)
