Why Confidence Indicators Exist
AI answers are probabilistic โ they are not always right. Rather than pretend otherwise, AskBiz shows a confidence indicator on every AI-generated answer so you can calibrate how much weight to give it. This is a transparency commitment, not a disclaimer โ we want you to use AI insights effectively, and that means knowing when to trust them and when to verify.
The Four Confidence Levels
๐ข High Confidence
Based on complete, recent, directly connected data. The AI has everything it needs to answer accurately.
- Data: 100% from your connected sources, synced within 6 hours
- Calculation: deterministic or near-deterministic
- Recommendation: act on this with normal business judgement
๐ก Medium Confidence
Based on partial data, data older than 30 days, or requiring inference across sources.
- Data: present but incomplete, or slightly stale
- Calculation: involves some estimation or interpolation
- Recommendation: directionally reliable โ verify key figures before major decisions
๐ด Low Confidence
Limited relevant data available. The AI is doing its best with what exists.
- Data: sparse, old, or indirectly relevant
- Calculation: significant inference or assumption required
- Recommendation: treat as a starting point for investigation, not a conclusion
ใ Estimate
No directly relevant data available. The AI is using sector benchmarks, industry averages, or general inference.
- Data: not from your connected sources
- Calculation: based on external benchmarks
- Recommendation: explicitly label as an estimate if sharing externally. Do not use as a basis for significant financial decisions without independent verification.
How Confidence Is Calculated
Confidence is determined by four factors, each weighted:
- Data completeness (40%) โ what percentage of the data needed to answer exists in your connected sources
- Data recency (30%) โ how recently the relevant data was synced
- Source directness (20%) โ whether the data comes directly from the relevant platform or is inferred from another source
- Question specificity (10%) โ whether the question is narrow enough that the available data is sufficient to answer it precisely
These four scores are combined into the final confidence level. The thresholds:
- 85โ100: High
- 60โ84: Medium
- 35โ59: Low
- Below 35: Estimate
Improving Your Confidence Levels
The fastest ways to raise confidence across your answers:
- Connect more data sources โ each additional connector raises completeness scores across related questions
- Sync more frequently โ Business plan users get real-time syncs; Growth users get 6-hour syncs. Stale data is the most common cause of Medium confidence.
- Ask more specific questions โ narrow questions can be answered with less data than broad ones
- Connect accounting software โ QuickBooks or Xero dramatically improves confidence on any financial question
