POS Operations: Navigating Retail, Restaurant, Salon and More
How the Operations tab adapts to different business types — understanding the sector selector and what changes between Retail, Restaurant, Repair, Salon, Factory, and Logistics modes.
Key Takeaways
- The Operations tab has six sector modes: Restaurant, Repair, Salon, Retail, Factory, and Logistics — each shows the tools relevant to that business type.
- Switching sectors changes the menu options, terminology, and default workflows to match your industry.
- If you run multiple business types (e.g. a salon that also sells retail products), you can switch between sectors within the same account.
The sector selector in Operations
Go to POS > Operations. At the top you'll see six pill buttons: Restaurant, Repair, Salon, Retail, Factory, and Logistics. These represent different business types. Click any pill to switch to that sector's Operations menu. The default is Retail — showing Inventory, Sales, Customers, Promotions, Loyalty, Returns, Reports, Purchase Orders, Gift Cards, Staff, Branches, Map, Integrations, and Audit. Other sectors replace some of these with industry-specific alternatives.
Retail Operations
Retail is the most comprehensive mode with the full menu: Inventory (stock levels & products), Sales (revenue & transactions), Customers (profiles, history & segments), Promotions (discounts, coupons & deals), Loyalty (points, rewards & tiers), Returns (refunds, exchanges & credits), Reports (sales, margins & insights), Purchase Orders (supplier orders & receiving — coming soon), Gift Cards (issue, redeem & balances — coming soon), Staff (cashiers & permissions), Branches (locations & stock by branch), Map (branch locations on map), Integrations (Xero, payments & more), and Audit (transaction & change log).

Restaurant mode replaces Inventory with a Menu builder — you create dishes with ingredients rather than physical stock items. Returns become Voids (cancelling table orders). The Sales view includes table numbers and covers (number of diners). Reports show average spend per cover and table turn times alongside revenue. If you run a café or food stall, Restaurant mode is designed for you — it handles the ordering flow and kitchen coordination rather than traditional retail stock management.
Repair, Salon, Factory and Logistics
Repair mode is designed for phone repair shops, electronics services, and trade businesses — it includes job management, customer quotes, and parts inventory. Salon mode adds appointment booking, staff scheduling, and service menus. Factory mode focuses on production runs, raw material inventory, and work-in-progress tracking. Logistics mode centres on parcel management, driver assignment, and route planning. If your business spans multiple modes — for example a salon that also sells retail hair products — use Retail for the product sales and Salon for services.
