What is segmentation?#

Segmentation groups your customers based on shared characteristics. AskBiz creates segments automatically based on purchase data โ€” you do not need to tag customers manually. The default segments are: VIP (top 10% by spend), Regular (purchased 3+ times in 90 days), At Risk (previously regular but no purchase in 60 days), New (first purchase in last 30 days), and Lapsed (no purchase in 120+ days).

Viewing segments#

Go to POS > Customers > Segments. Each segment shows the customer count, total revenue, average order value, and average purchase frequency. Click into a segment to see the individual customers. The At Risk segment is the most actionable โ€” these are customers who were loyal but are drifting away. AskBiz's churn prediction model scores each at-risk customer by likelihood of returning.

Custom segments#

Create custom segments with your own rules. Go to Segments > New and define conditions โ€” for example, customers who spent over KES 50,000 in the last 6 months, or customers who bought a specific product category. Custom segments update automatically as new transactions come in. Use them to target promotions or track the performance of a loyalty campaign.

Using segments for decisions#

Ask AskBiz questions about specific segments: What is the average basket size for VIP customers? Which products do At Risk customers buy most? How much revenue would I lose if all Lapsed customers never return? The AI uses your segmentation data to give specific, actionable answers.
