Using the Tax Filing Preview
Preview your tax return data before filing to catch errors and verify figures.
What the preview shows#
The Tax Filing Preview consolidates all your taxable sales, exempt sales, tax collected, and tax payable for a given period. It formats the data in the structure required by your tax authority โ KRA for Kenya, FIRS for Nigeria, HMRC for the UK. Review the figures before submitting your actual return to catch discrepancies between your POS records and what you are about to declare.
Generating a preview#
Go to Reports > Tax > Filing Preview. Select the period โ monthly or quarterly depending on your filing frequency. Select the jurisdiction if you operate in multiple tax territories. Click Generate. The preview takes a few seconds to compile and shows a formatted summary matching your tax authority's return structure.
Verifying figures#
Compare the preview against your accounting software and bank records. Check that total sales match, tax amounts are correctly calculated, and exempt items are properly categorised. If figures do not match, drill down into the transactions for the period to find the discrepancy. Common issues include miscategorised items, missing transactions, and incorrect tax rate assignments.
Exporting for your accountant#
Click Export to download the filing preview as a CSV or PDF. Share it with your accountant for review before filing. If you use Xero or QuickBooks, the tax data syncs automatically โ use the preview to verify the sync is accurate before your accountant files the return.
