Setting Up Low-Stock Alert Thresholds

Configure when and how you are notified about products running low.

Setting thresholds#

Go to Inventory > Alerts > Low Stock. For each product, set the threshold โ€” the stock level below which you want to be alerted. The default is 10 units but this varies wildly by product. A fast-moving item might need a threshold of 50 while a slow-moving accessory might be fine at 5. Set thresholds based on how quickly the product sells and how long it takes to restock.

Alert channels#

Choose where low-stock alerts are delivered: the AskBiz dashboard, email, WhatsApp, or push notification. You can set different channels for different urgency levels โ€” dashboard notification at 20 units, WhatsApp message at 10 units, email to the purchasing manager at 5 units. Configure channels in Settings > Notifications.

Bulk threshold setting#

For businesses with hundreds of products, set thresholds in bulk. Go to Alerts > Bulk Configure and upload a CSV with product SKU and threshold columns. Or use the category default โ€” set a threshold for all items in Electronics, for example, and override individually where needed.

Reviewing alerts#

The Low Stock Dashboard shows all products currently below their threshold, sorted by urgency. See the current stock, daily sales rate, and estimated days until stockout. This tells you not just what is low but what will run out first. Prioritise restocking accordingly.
