Setting Up WaafiPay Payments (EVC Plus, WAAFI, Zaad, Sahal)

Accept Somalia's mobile wallets — EVC Plus, WAAFI, Zaad, and Sahal — through the WaafiPay gateway.

What is WaafiPay?#

WaafiPay is a single payment gateway that aggregates Somalia's mobile wallets — EVC Plus (Hormuud/Golis), WAAFI, Zaad (Telesom), and Sahal — behind one API. Instead of connecting each wallet separately, AskBiz sends a single request through WaafiPay and it routes to whichever wallet your customer holds.

Getting set up#

Go to POS > Payments and select your country as Somalia. Unlike Paystack or Stripe, WaafiPay has no self-serve credential API — there's no instant onboarding form. Submitting the setup form registers your business and marks your account pending; AskBiz support then follows up to complete activation once you have a merchant agreement in place with WAAFI HQ or one of its partner branches (Telesom, Zaad, Golis). Your account shows Pending until credentials are attached.

Choosing a wallet at checkout#

Once activated, selecting Mobile Money at checkout for a Somali merchant shows a wallet picker — EVC Plus, WAAFI, Zaad, or Sahal — instead of a single M-Pesa-style option. Pick the wallet the customer uses, enter their phone number, and confirm. The customer approves the payment on their phone (USSD or app), the same way an M-Pesa STK push works.

Currency#

WaafiPay processes in Somali Shilling (SOS) or US Dollars (USD) — many Somali businesses price and settle in USD. AskBiz records whichever currency your merchant account is configured for so your reports and receipts stay consistent.
