Your First 7 Days with AskBiz
A day-by-day setup checklist to get the most from your first week — from connecting data to asking your first business-changing question.
Day 1: Connect your most important data source
Do not try to connect everything on day one — start with the one platform that holds your most important data.
For eCommerce businesses: Connect Shopify or Amazon first.
For service businesses: Connect Xero or QuickBooks first.
For marketplace sellers: Connect your highest-revenue marketplace first.
Go to Settings → Integrations → [your platform] and follow the connection flow. The initial import takes 30 minutes to a few hours depending on your data volume. You will receive an email when it is complete.
While the import runs: explore the Help Center to understand what AskBiz can do for your business type.
Day 2: Explore your Business Pulse score
Once your first data source is connected, go to the Home page to see your Business Pulse score — a 0–100 health score for your business across revenue, growth, customer retention, and cash flow dimensions.
Click each dimension to understand what is driving your score. Ask the AI Chat: 'What is pulling my Pulse score down?' to get a plain-English explanation of your biggest current performance gaps.
This is often the moment where AskBiz surfaces something surprising — a metric you did not know was off, or a trend that was invisible in the raw data.
Day 3: Connect a second data source
Add the next most important platform. For most businesses:
- If you connected Shopify: add Xero or QuickBooks for financial data
- If you connected Xero: add your primary sales channel
- If you connected Amazon: add Shopify or your other sales channels
With two connected platforms, AskBiz starts showing cross-platform insights — for example, comparing your eCommerce revenue against your accounting P&L, or correlating ad spend with sales performance.
Ask: 'How does my Shopify revenue compare to what's showing in Xero?' to check the data is reconciling correctly.
Day 4: Set up your key metrics dashboard
Go to Dashboards → Create Dashboard and build a view that shows the 5–8 metrics most important to your business.
Suggested starter metrics for eCommerce:
- Total revenue (MTD and YoY comparison)
- Gross margin %
- Average order value
- Repeat purchase rate
- Cost per order
- Inventory weeks of supply
Arrange the widgets in the order you check them — most important at the top left. Save the dashboard as your default home view.
Setting up your dashboard on day 4 means you have a purpose-built view to open every morning from day 5 onwards.
Days 5–7: Ask the questions you have always wanted answered
With data connected and your dashboard set up, spend the rest of your first week asking the questions you have never had easy answers to:
Try asking:
- 'Which 10 customers have the highest lifetime value?'
- 'What is my revenue breakdown by product category for the last 3 months?'
- 'Which of my products has the highest return rate?'
- 'How does my gross margin this quarter compare to last quarter?'
- 'Which acquisition channel brings me the most valuable customers?'
Each answer leads to another question — this is how AskBiz is designed to be used. Follow the thread of insight until you find something actionable.
By the end of your first week, most users have identified at least one meaningful change to make to their business based on AskBiz data.
