Complete Onboarding Guide
Step-by-step guide to setting up AskBiz: create your account, complete onboarding, connect your data, and get your first AI business insight.
Overview
AskBiz onboarding takes roughly 5–10 minutes. By the end, you'll have a Business Pulse score, a connected data source, and your first AI-generated Daily Brief. This guide walks through each of the 7 onboarding steps in detail.
Step 1 — Your Business Name
Enter the trading name of your business. This is used to personalise your Daily Brief and AI responses. You can change it later in Account Settings. If you operate under multiple brands, enter the primary one now — you can add context about additional brands in your business profile.
Step 2 — Business Type
Select the type that best describes your operation:
- Product-based — you sell physical goods (retail, wholesale, manufacturing)
- Service-based — you sell time or expertise (agency, consultancy, freelance)
- Hybrid — mix of both (e.g. a design studio that also sells merchandise)
This shapes which Business Tools are most relevant to you. Product-based businesses unlock the Landed Cost Calculator, Supplier Scorecard, and Shipments features by default.
Step 3 — Location & Currency
Select your primary operating country and home currency. AskBiz uses this to:
- Format all financial figures correctly
- Apply the right tax regime in the Landed Cost Calculator
- Set baseline FX pairs in the Risk Modeller
- Recommend relevant Export Markets
Currently supported home currencies: GBP, USD, EUR, AED, SAR, QAR. More are added regularly.
Step 4 — Business Sector
Choose your primary sector (e.g. Fashion, Electronics, Food & Beverage, Beauty, Home & Living, Health & Wellness, B2B SaaS, Professional Services). Your sector affects:
- The anomaly detection thresholds for your business type
- Export Market recommendations (some markets favour certain sectors)
- Supplier Scorecard benchmarks
- Social Commerce demand signal weighting
Step 5 — Export Markets
If you sell internationally (or plan to), select your active export markets. This unlocks the Export Market Scoring tool pre-populated with your markets. If you don't export yet, select Not yet — show me opportunities to get proactive market recommendations based on your sector.
Step 6 — Connect Your Data
This is the most important step. Connect at least one data source to activate your Business Pulse score. Options include:
- Shopify — orders, revenue, refunds, customer data
- Amazon Seller Central — sales, returns, Buy Box metrics
- TikTok Shop — sales, content performance, social signals
- QuickBooks / Xero — profit, cash flow, expenses
- Stripe / Square — transactions, revenue trends
- CSV upload — paste or upload any spreadsheet
You can connect multiple sources. The more you connect, the richer your Business Pulse and Daily Brief become.
Step 7 — You're In
Once you've connected data, AskBiz runs your first analysis. Within 60 seconds you'll see:
- Your Business Pulse score (0–100)
- Any Anomaly Alerts detected in your data
- Your first Daily Brief (or it will be ready the next morning)
