Factory Roles and Permissions

Understand the factory-specific permission flags in AskBiz POS — the five camera.* capture flags, capture.approve, hold.clear, and more — and how to assign them to your staff.

The factory permission flags#

AskBiz's Factory sector uses a set of specific permission flags. Five cover the capture-and-approve flow:

  • camera.intake, camera.output, camera.packaging, camera.wastage, camera.dispatch — can submit that type of capture
  • capture.approve — can see the pending approvals queue and approve or reject captures

A further set covers the wider Factory toolkit:

  • batch.log / batch.view — log a batch checkpoint scan / view the batch hub and history
  • quality.check / quality.view — log a quality check / view quality check history
  • downtime.report, downtime.close, downtime.view — open a downtime event, close one, or view them
  • shift.production_open, shift.production_close, shift.production_view — start, end, or view production shifts (separate from the general shift.open/shift.close used at the cash register)
  • waybill.log / waybill.view — log a dispatch waybill / view the waybill hub and on-time stats
  • hold.clear — formally clear a not-yet-releasable hold with a photo, from the Production log
  • factory.machines_manage / factory.recipes_manage — reserved for upcoming machine-registry and recipe-management screens; owners and managers hold them today, but no admin screen currently uses them

Permission flags are additive — a staff member can hold any combination.

Roles in context — the five factory role templates#

AskBiz defines five factory role templates: Line Operator, Quality Inspector, Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, and Inventory Manager.

  • Line Operator — the general floor role. Gets all five camera.* flags plus batch, downtime, production-shift, and waybill logging — everything needed to run the line day to day, but not capture.approve or hold.clear.
  • Quality Inspector — QA staff. Gets camera.intake/camera.wastage, quality.check/quality.view, and view access to batches, downtime, and waybills.
  • Shift Supervisor — a working supervisor. Gets everything a Line Operator gets, plus capture.approve, hold.clear, quality.check/quality.view, and view-level access across sales, inventory, service jobs, purchase orders, and reports.
  • Production Manager — full management access: every Factory permission (including capture.approve, hold.clear, and the reserved machine/recipe flags), plus inventory management, refunds, and financial reports.
  • Inventory Manager — stock and traceability focused. Gets camera.intake, purchase-order view/create/receive/pay (not send-to-supplier), and view access to batches, downtime, and waybills, alongside general inventory management.
  • Owner — full access to every feature, always, including staff management.

Worth knowing when adding staff: today's Add Staff screen only offers a direct picker for three of these five (Line Operator, Shift Supervisor, Production Manager) under simpler labels (Worker/Supervisor/Manager). Quality Inspector and Inventory Manager are fully valid roles once assigned, but need to be set from Settings → POS → Staff rather than that quicker picker.

Assigning roles from the admin Staff tab#

For a new staff member, the fastest route is picking one of the role templates above when you add them — it applies a sensible permission set in one step. To fine-tune afterwards, or to set permissions from scratch:

1. Go to Settings → POS → Staff in your admin panel

2. Find the staff member and tap Edit

3. Under Factory Permissions, toggle on the relevant flags

4. Tap Save

Changes take effect immediately — the staff member will see the updated capture buttons the next time they log in at pos.askbiz.co.

To remove a permission, return to the same screen and toggle it off. The staff member's historical captures are not affected — only future capture access is changed.
