Fixing CSV Upload Errors

Common issues when uploading CSV or Excel files to AskBiz and how to resolve them.

Error: File format not recognised

AskBiz accepts .csv, .xlsx, and .xls files only. Common causes of format errors:

  • The file has a .csv extension but is actually a different format — open it in a text editor to verify it contains comma-separated values
  • The Excel file uses features not supported in older .xls format — save as .xlsx and retry
  • The file was exported from accounting software in a proprietary format — export as CSV instead

Error: Required columns missing

AskBiz expects specific column names depending on the data type you are uploading. Download the AskBiz CSV template from the upload screen for the exact column names and format required.

Common missing columns:

  • Date column must be in YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY, or MM/DD/YYYY format
  • Revenue or Amount column must be numeric — remove currency symbols (£, $, €) before uploading
  • Order ID must be unique per row — duplicate order IDs will cause rows to be rejected

Error: File too large

The maximum file size is 50MB. Files larger than this are rejected.

Fix: Split the file into multiple smaller files by date range and upload each separately. For example, upload 2023 data in one file and 2024 data in another. AskBiz will merge them automatically.

Some rows were rejected

After an upload, AskBiz shows a summary of accepted and rejected rows. Download the rejection report to see exactly which rows failed and why.

Common rejection reasons:

  • Date is in an unrecognised format
  • Revenue value contains text (e.g. N/A, pending)
  • A required field is blank
  • Duplicate Order ID already exists in AskBiz from a previous upload

Upload succeeded but data does not appear in dashboard

Allow up to 15 minutes for uploaded data to appear in your dashboard after a successful upload. If data still does not appear after 15 minutes, go to Settings → Integrations → CSV Uploads and check the upload status. If it shows an error, delete the upload and retry.
