Troubleshooting: Camera Not Working
Fix common camera issues when photographing products in AskBiz POS — permission denied, the photo picker not opening, or a photo that won't upload.
How the camera really works here#
AskBiz POS doesn't run a live in-browser camera preview — tapping the scan/camera button hands off to your device's own camera app to take a single photo, the same way attaching a photo to a message would. That photo is then uploaded and identified by AI (see Scanning Products with Your Camera). This matters for troubleshooting: there's no live video feed to go black or freeze, no flash toggle inside AskBiz, and no front/rear camera switch inside the app — all of that is your phone's normal camera app, outside AskBiz entirely.
Camera permission denied#
If tapping the camera button does nothing or shows an error instead of opening your camera app, your browser may not have camera/file access permission:
- Chrome (Android/Desktop) — tap the padlock icon in the address bar → Site settings → Camera → Allow
- Safari (iPhone/iPad) — go to Settings → Safari → Camera → set to Allow
- Firefox — tap the padlock icon → Permissions → Camera → Allow
After changing the permission, refresh the page and try again.
Photo taken but nothing happens, or it says no match#
If the photo uploads but AskBiz doesn't recognise the product, that's expected behaviour, not a bug — AskBiz deliberately won't guess on an unclear match (see Scanning Products with Your Camera). Retake the photo with better lighting and the product filling more of the frame, or add the product manually instead.
If the upload itself seems stuck or fails outright, check your connection — recognition runs server-side and needs a live connection to work.
No camera available#
If your device has no camera (an older laptop, for example) or your browser blocks camera access entirely, you can still add every product by tapping it in the product grid or searching by name — the camera is a shortcut, never the only way to add an item to a sale.
