Assigning Staff to Sectors

How to assign each staff member to their sector so they only see what is relevant to them when they log in at pos.askbiz.co.

Why sector assignment matters#

When a staff member logs in at pos.askbiz.co, they see only the sector they are assigned to. This means a restaurant server is not distracted by repair jobs, and a retail cashier cannot accidentally enter data into the restaurant workflow. It also creates a clean audit trail — every transaction is attributed to a sector from the moment it is created.

Assigning a sector when adding staff#

When you add a new staff member in the Staff tab at askbiz.co/pos, the Add Staff form includes a Sector dropdown. Select the sector they will work in: Restaurant, Repair, Salon, or Retail. If you do not select one, the member defaults to Retail. This sector is stored with their profile and applies every time they log in.

Changing an existing staff member's sector#

Open the Staff tab, find the member, and tap Edit. The Sector dropdown shows the current assignment and how many changes remain. Each staff member can have their sector changed a maximum of two times. This limit prevents sector changes being used to share a single seat across different workers. The counter shows '2 changes remaining', '1 change remaining', or 'Locked' when the limit is reached.

What happens when the limit is reached#

Once a staff member has used both sector changes, the dropdown is locked and a message explains that further reassignment requires purchasing a new seat. This is intentional — a new seat represents a new worker, and the limit protects the integrity of per-seat pricing. To reassign, go to Billing and add a seat, then create a fresh staff profile for that worker.

The sector badge on the staff list#

Each staff member in the list displays a colour-coded sector badge: orange for Restaurant, purple for Repair, pink for Salon, and green for Retail. This lets you see at a glance how your team is distributed across sectors and spot any misassignments before they cause problems.
