Managing Your POS Inventory
Add, edit, categorise, and organise products in your AskBiz POS inventory. Learn how to set prices, manage variants, and keep your product catalogue clean.
The POS inventory page#
Your product catalogue lives at /pos/inventory. Here you can see every product available for sale, organised by category. Each product shows its name, price, current stock level (if tracked), and barcode status.
Use the search bar to find products quickly, or filter by category using the sidebar tabs. Products with low stock are highlighted in amber, and out-of-stock items appear greyed out and cannot be added to a sale unless you enable overselling in settings.
Adding and editing products#
Tap Add Product to create a new item. Required fields are name and price. Optional fields include:
- SKU โ your internal reference code
- Barcode โ scan or type a barcode to link it
- Category โ assign to a category for filtering and reporting
- Cost price โ enter your buy price to enable margin reporting
- Track stock โ toggle on to enable quantity tracking
To edit an existing product, tap it in the list and make changes. Price changes take effect immediately for new sales but do not affect historical transactions.
Categories and organisation#
Categories help you organise the product grid on the sale screen and power category-level reporting. Go to /pos/inventory โ Categories to create, rename, or reorder them.
Good category structures are simple and flat. For a coffee shop: Hot Drinks, Cold Drinks, Food, Snacks, Merchandise. For a clothing retailer: Tops, Bottoms, Accessories, Footwear, Sale Items. Avoid nesting categories more than one level deep โ it slows down the sale screen.
Importing products from other sources#
If you already sell online through Shopify, WooCommerce, or another connected platform, you can import your existing product catalogue into POS. Go to /pos/inventory โ Import โ From Connected Source and select the platform.
AskBiz matches products by SKU first, then by name. Duplicates are flagged for review. You can also import from a CSV file โ download the template, fill in your products, and upload. The importer handles up to 5,000 products per batch.
